Continuously variable transmission (CVT), also known as a shiftless transmission or stepless transmission, are mainly found in the Honda, Nissan and Toyota range with the exception of Audi who use 6,7 and 8-speed multitronic versions.
CVT is the most economical form of transmission which relies on a pulley and belt system
This system especially in the Audi and Nissan vehicles can be very troublesome with excessive bearing wear in the Nissan JATCO range being the root cause of most of their issues and the Audi multitronic suffering with continuing clutch and mechatronics failures throughout its life.
